Seymour M. Sabesin, MD, is Professor of Medicine at Rush University Medical Center and President of Digestive Diseases Education Company (DDEC), a therapeutically focused medical education agency, both in Chicago, Illinois. Dr Sabesin is also the cofounder of IMPACT™, a DDEC-produced, CME-sponsored conference series held throughout the United States, which provides physicians and allied healthcare professionals with annual clinical updates in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology. He is the former Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases at Rush University Medical Center. Prior to assuming his positions in Chicago, he was Director of Gastroenterology and Head of the National Institutes of Health Training Program in Liver Diseases at the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences at Memphis. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles on gastrointestinal disorders in such journals as the Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of Clinical Investigation, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, and The New England Journal of Medicine. He is the past Chairman of the Admissions Committee of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and is currently a member of the AGA Public Policy and Finance Committee. He was also recently appointed to the Corporate and Foundation Giving Committee of the American Digestive Health Foundation. Dr Sabesin received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He was a research and clinical fellow at the National Institutes of Health and a resident in internal medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in New York City. He was also a clinical and research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he trained in gastroenterology, and a member of the faculty of the Harvard Medical School.
