The Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
There is a need for further education in the following areas:

The physiology of the enteric nervous system, and the pathophysiological factors that lead to the development of IBS
The possible role of genetic factors, and enteric pathogens in IBS
The diagnosis of IBS, based on symptoms, laboratory tests, and its differentiation from chronic constipation and other functional gastrointestinal disorders
An evidence-based analysis of the efficacy and safety of drugs used for the treatment of IBS, including IBS with constipation, as a dominate symptom, and IBS with diarrhea as a dominate symptom


Hepatitis B (HBV)
There is a need for further education in the following areas:

The burden of illness, natural history and complications of HBV
The optimal utilization of laboratory tests to diagnose HBV, and to guide management decisions
An evidence-based review of currently available drugs used in the treatment of HBV, including efficacy, safety, viral resistance, and protocols for therapy
Issues related to HBV drug resistant mutants, and management of treated patients who have developed HBV drug resistance.
The management of special populations infected with HBV
The mechanism of action and efficacy of drugs in clinical trials for the treatment of HBV


Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD)
There is a need for further education in the following areas:
4 = Strongly Agree 3 = Agree 2 = Somewhat Disagree 1 = Disagree
The pathophysiology of IBD including Crohn's Disease(CD), and Ulcerative Colitis (UC)
The efficacy and safety of the various mesalamine drugs used in the treatment of UC
Issues related to compliance with therapy in UC patients
Surveillance for colon cancer in patients with UC or Crohn's colitis
Chemoprevention of colon cancer in IBD patients
The role of "biological" agents, (e.g. anti-TNF-alpha), in the management of IBD, including mechanism of action, initiation of therapy, long-term maintenance therapy, and comparative efficacy and safety of currently available drugs.


Acid-Peptic Disorders
There is a need for further education in the following areas:
4 = Strongly Agree 3 = Agree 2 = Somewhat Disagree 1 = Disagree
Issues related to Barrett's Esophagus, including pathobiology, endoscopic surveillance, advances in endoscopic mucosal ablation
The effects of NSAIDs on the GI tract, including risk factors, prophylaxis and management of GI bleeding.
The diagnosis and management of Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Update on the pharmacology of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), and their optimal utilization in a variety of acid-related esophageal disorders


Metabolic Diseases
There is a need for further education in the following areas:

The diagnosis and management of the Metabolic Syndrome
Advances in the management of Type 2 diabetes
Recognition and treatment of dyslipidemia
The relationship of Fatty Liver, (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease-NAFLD to obesity, diabetes and the Metabolic Syndrome
Diagnosis and management of NAFLD, and Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, NASH
